URL FIXED - The CANB Provincial Grant Program is now accepting applications!
Again this year we anticipate the renewal of the grant from the Province of New Brunswick for the 2008-09 fiscal year. The funding will enable CANB to continue to serve its member institutions via Archives Advisor site visits and related services, workshops, our new and improved website, sponsorship of Heritage Fairs in the public school system, re-formatting of audio-visual materials for our members, and other projects.
As in the previous two years, a portion of this funding is available to member institutions under the CANB Provincial Grant Program. The objective of this program is to support archival institutions as they seek to preserve and provide access to New Brunswick’s documentary heritage. CANB encourages you plan a project that addresses your needs in fulfilling your institution’s archival mandate. Institutions may be awarded up to $5000 (per application).
For more information, please see our website.

AGM and Workshop on Monetary Appraisal
Please join us for the Council of Archives New Brunswick AGM 2008 on May 9th in the Milham Room of the Harriet Irving Library (UNB – Fredericton Campus). The AGM will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by what promises to be an educational and entertaining workshop on monetary appraisal.
The request for monetary appraisal as part of a donation agreement is an ongoing challenge for archivists. This workshop will provide both a theoretical and practical background. Workshop leaders will be Carman Carroll and Burt Glendenning, experienced archivists and monetary appraisers, recognized by NAAB. Workshop participants are invited to bring one or more items which the workshop leaders will then discuss in terms of how they would appraise them, and then translate that appraisal into financial terms. It is the perfect opportunity to learn what affects the monetary value of a donation.
The schedule for the event will be as follows:
9:00- 10:15 Council of Archives New Brunswick AGM
10:15-10:30 Coffee Break
10:30-12:00 Workshop on Monetary Appraisal
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00* continuation of Workshop on Monetary Appraisal.
*Workshop may extend past 2:00 depending on the number of items brought for appraisal.
Note that Coffee Break and Lunch will be provided.
The cost of the workshop is $15 for each participant. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required by May 5. Please visit our website to download the registration form:

Reimbursement of travel expenses is available to CANB members in good standing. Please visit our website to download our travel claim form:

CANB T-Shirts?
Since we have a great new logo (and yes, we did consider the fiddlehead!) I think we should display it on a t-shirt. Anyone with me?

New Website
Wow - I think that the new website looks great. I absolutely love the logo. Whoever picked that chickadee has a fantastic sense of style. Congrats CANB on a new "brand."
